  Personality: Stubborn and snarky, Kione still retains a confidence in his abilities that he's had since childhood. He has mellowed out somewhat since his teenaged years, and now is much more reliant on having and working off of a plan. However, if said plan goes awry, Kione can't quickly adjust to the change, and split-decisions often cause him to freeze, wasting vital time. Self-doubt is usually a foreign thing, to him, and when he does experience it, he overreacts to it, as he does with most of his fears. Water deeper than his knees terrifies him, as he cannot swim, and wide open spaces with no cover put him on edge.
  
  He still mourns over his past, though. Kione is almost constantly homesick for his family (with whom, he's had no contact since his exile), and he worries about what they think of him. He regrets ever picking the fight with the Lion, and attempts to live by a moral code in honor of his lost friend, Kafele…keywords "attempts to". His occupation often forces him to break or bend this code.
  
  Appearance: Broad shouldered, with slightly slimmer hips, sandy-tan fur, and a grey underbelly, Kione's head, back, and all the way to his tail, are covered in large, hard, and sharp armored plate scales, colored a dusty bronze. These scales extend around under his shoulders and down his sides, and he has two more curved plates on each shoulder, acting as shoulder guards. His eyes are a pale grey, and often seem to darken when he is angry.
  
  Clothing/accessories: Leather boots with black toes, and black buckles that wrap around to the outside of the boot. Each boot has two layered bronze knee guards, shaped into points and hammered into curves. They are attached to the boot's top flap, and lock in position over the buckles when the boot is put on. There are three white, pyramidal 'claws' on the toes of each boot, and they're primarily for gaining footholds whilst climbing.
  
  He also wears a pair of leather bracers with four layers of pointed bronze "scales" tied to it. The edges of the scales are sharpened, but they're more to dissuade others from grabbing his forearms in combat, than for combat themselves. His only non-natural weapon is a rungu - a hardwood throwing stick with a heavy knot at one end. It can be used both for close combat and long-distance (though single use only, for the latter).
  
  Skills: Though a natural at digging and a relatively good climber, Kione's real claim to fame is "offensive defense". His armored scales are very hard and sharp, and he can flare them up to inflict even more damage. Kione can curl himself into an armored ball, and can roll or bounce with gravity, though he cannot move himself while in ball form. It takes a lot of force to uncurl Kione, unless he is unconscious.
  
  History: Born into a semi-secluded city nestled along the cave-pitted walls of a volcano caldera, Kione - then Reon - was the second youngest of four, and was trained from the age of six to follow in his mother's footsteps and become a soldier and guard for the city. He was officially inducted into the city guard at age twelve, and spent three years defending the city from the confrontational nomads they shared the savannah with.
  
  He became close friends with a bat, Kafele - a refugee who helped supply the city guard as a blacksmith - and may have even developed romantic feelings for him. Reon would even occasionally damage his own city-issued armor, just for an excuse to visit. When off-duty, Reon and Kafele would spend their days down at the shores of the lake that filled the bottom of the caldera, or looking out over the savannah from the top of the caldera rim, speculating what might lay behind the horizon (as both their duties bound them to the city, so nether could really leave).
  
  One day, a Lion nomad took up residence in a cave at the top of the caldera rim. This posed quite the security risk, to the city, because Lions and Pangolins are mortal enemies, and during the rainy months, when the caldera's lake rose, the Pangolin needed the upper caves for themselves (the lower caves would flood). But, the then-king wasn't prepared to provoke the nomad, for fear of starting a war with the neighboring Lion pride. Reon, however, wasn't keen on sitting idle with a threat so close to his people, and he decided to confront and drive off the Lion himself.
  
  Kafele followed his friend up to the caldera rim, trying to talk him out of it, but Reon picked the fight anyway. The Lion agreed to a duel; if he lost a fair fight, he would leave, and if Reon lost, the Lion would keep the cave. The fight was short, and only lasted a few minutes. Kafele tried one last time to pull Reon out of the fight, and the Lion shoved the two into each other. Kafele was pushed off the edge of the caldera wall, and fell to his (supposed) death.
  
  The Lion packed up and left, none to eager to face the wrath of a full city of provoked Pangolin. Reon was arrested, and for his crimes (endangering the safety of a civilian, endangering the safety of the city, disobeying a direct proclamation of the king, and negligent homicide), he was stripped of his social standing, exiled from the city, and had his name dishonorably changed. Now Kione, he was escorted outside the city gates, and locked out. He spent five years wandering the savannah, honing his fighting and survival skills, and taking work where he could get it. He fell into the job description of a mercenary, as that paid the best, and the perks often allowed him free room and board, if only for a short time.
  
  Weaknesses: Speed and swimming. Kione's natural armored plates are great for defense, but they're very heavy. His top speed is utterly laughable, and his buoyancy is quite negative, so even treading water requires a greed expenditure of effort that can only last for a minute or two. The claws on his knuckles cannot retract, and if they break, they become very sensitive (akin to a broken finger). The power he puts behind his kicks occasionally results in the 'claws' of his boots becoming stuck (in stone, wood, earth, metal, etc.), and Kione can occasionally get 'stuck' in ball form, when the armored plates on his head and tail lock together.
